Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra Auditions

Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra auditions will be held at the Owensboro Symphony – 211 East Second Street 

• Sunday, August 25, 2024 2-6 p.m.
• Monday, August 26, 2024 6-8:30 p.m.

Audition times are reserved in 10-minute slots. Please email OSYO Conductor, Mark Hatlestad, to arrange your audition. Questions may be sent to Youth Orchestra Coordinator, Greg Olson.

Requirements

STRINGS (Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass): 

• Please prepare bracketed excerpts to the best of your ability (it does not have to be up to tempo; focus on intonation and keeping a steady pulse).
• Perform two of the following major scales from memory in two octaves (C, G, D, F, Bb or Eb).
• One prepared short piece of your choosing (it may be a solo or an excerpt from an ensemble piece). Your school music teacher or private teacher can help you find something that best shows off your abilities. 
• There will also be a brief sight-reading example.

WINDS AND BRASS (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, or Tuba):

• Please prepare bracketed excerpts to the best of your ability (it does not have to be up to tempo; focus on intonation and keeping a steady pulse). 
• Perform two of the following major scales from memory (C, G, D, F, Bb or Eb) in one or two octaves.
• One prepared short piece of your choosing (it may be a solo or an excerpt from an ensemble piece). Your school music teacher or private teacher can help you find something that best shows off your abilities. 
• There will also be a brief sight-reading example.

String Orchestra Participation Requirements

Students interested in joining the String Orchestra are not required to audition. Membership in the String Orchestra is by recommendation of the student’s orchestra director or private teacher. These recommendations may be sent to Youth Orchestra Coordinator, Greg Olson.
