Audition Requirements

Owensboro Symphony String Orchestra Audition Requirements

No audition is required. Membership in the String Orchestra is by recommendation of the student’s school orchestra director or private teacher (if no school program exists). It is preferred the student have a minimum of two years of training before joining. Recommendations can be sent to Youth Orchestra Coordinator, Greg Olson, via email.

Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra auditions will be held at the Owensboro Symphony – 211 East Second Street 

  • Sunday, December 10th  12-4PM
  • Monday, December 11th 5:45-8PM

Audition times are reserved in 10-minute slots.

STRINGS (Violin, Viola, Cello, or Bass): Perform two of the following major scales from memory in two octaves (C, G, D, F, Bb or Eb) along with two short prepared pieces of your choosing. There will also be a brief sight-reading example. Your school music teacher or private teacher can help you find something that best shows off your abilities.

WINDS AND BRASS (Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Trumpet, Horn, Trombone, or Tuba):

Perform two of the following major scales from memory (C, G, D, F, Bb or Eb) in one or two octaves, along with two short prepared pieces of your choosing. There will also be a brief sight-reading example. Your school music teacher or private teacher can help you find something that best shows off your abilities.
