Owensboro, KY – Troy Quinn and the Owensboro Symphony conclude the 58th season with The Crown Jewel of performances on Saturday, April 20 at RiverPark Center. The program includes masterpieces of English composers Elgar, Vaughn Williams, Walton with a few surprises! Guest artists Deanna Breiwick, soprano and three-time Grammy Award winning bass-baritone Dashon Burton, will join the Owensboro Symphony and the Owensboro Symphony Chorus in a stirring performance of Ralph Vaughn Williams’ plea for peace, Dona Nobis Pacem.
“Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Dona Nobis Pacem is an extraordinary piece that urges us to consider peaceful resolutions to conflicts,” says Troy Quinn, Music Director. “The composition is characterized by its haunting modal melodies and brilliant orchestrations. It seamlessly weaves together anti-war poetry by Walt Whitman, political and biblical references to peace-making, resulting in a deeply moving and profound narrative.”
“As we approach the final concert of the 58th season, I can’t help but recognize how fortunate we are as an organization to be present in a community that has such a love for the arts,” said Gwyn Payne, CEO of the Symphony. “We are grateful to our donors, patrons, corporate and community partners, and world-class musicians for making this season a memorable one.”
The Owensboro Symphony Chorus led by Dennis Jewett, Associate Professor of Music and Director of Choral Activities at Kentucky Wesleyan College, will join the Symphony on stage. “The Owensboro Symphony Chorus is beyond excited to take part in this performance with the Symphony and two celebrated vocalists in performing Dona Nobis Pacem – a truly awe-inspiring choral masterpiece,” said Jewett. “The chorus will be composed of 80 singers, so you can expect a truly grand performance!” Read the words to Dona Nobis Pacem here.
As part of the Symphony’s Guest on the Go program, guest artists Deanna Breiwick and Dashon Burton will visit Owensboro High School choral students on Friday before the concert. This program allows guest artists to meet with students to inspire them to embrace their talents and abilities. Once the school day program concludes, the students are offered a fantastic opportunity to attend a live concert. This experience can be incredibly beneficial for them to learn and appreciate the arts while having fun.
Concert attendees are encouraged to join Troy Quinn in Cannon Hall from 6:15 to 6:40 p.m. for Behind the Music pre-concert conversation about the performance. Behind the Music is designed to enhance the concert experience and provide insights into the music and music-makers performing on the program.
