Youth Orchestras

The Owensboro Symphony, through its sponsorship of the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra program, provides specialized training to young musicians each year. The Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra program dedicates itself to building on the success of school programs by offering outstanding students music that continues to challenge them in their growth. Many students exiting the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra have been offered college music scholarships and continue performing beyond high school graduation.

The program consists of two performing ensembles: the Youth Orchestra and the String Orchestra. Participants include school band and orchestra students as well as young musicians studying with private instructors. The Youth Orchestra welcomes college students who wish to continue their careers as instrumentalists at a high level.

The String Orchestra provides young students the opportunity to perform with other young musicians as they refine their musical abilities until they are ready for the more advanced literature typically played by the Youth Orchestra. This group welcomes students who may be taking private lessons outside of a school environment and advancing school orchestra students as a stepping stone to prepare for the Youth Orchestra. 

The Youth Orchestra is a full orchestra experience including instruments in the string, woodwind, brass, and percussion families. Talented young musicians receive specialized training through the Owensboro Symphony Youth Orchestra; a program that is dedicated to helping students grow and succeed in their musical pursuits by performing advanced repertoire and learning from Owensboro Symphony musicians.
