The Owensboro Symphony continues its 56th season with A Night at the Oscars at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 29th at the RiverPark Center. The performance will transport you right onto Hollywood Boulevard featuring songs from Oscar-nominated and Oscar winning movies.
“This concert is full of memorable movie music from classics like The Godfather and new hits such as La La Land and everything in between,” said Music Director, Troy Quinn. The concert will also feature the world’s most recorded piper Eric Rigler as well. “You have probably heard Eric perform before. He has been featured playing bagpipes, Uilleann pipes and tin whistle for many movie soundtracks including Braveheart, The Lord of the Rings, Titanic, Million Dollar Baby, Road to Perdition, Cinderella Man and most recently on the STARZ series Outlander.” continued Quinn.
The January 29th concert will also be video recorded with a live audience for a future special on Kentucky Educational Television (KET). “We are excited to continue our partnership with KET and broaden our audience with this television special.” Said Gwyn Payne the Symphony’s Chief Executive Officer. “After the great success of our Safe at Home for the Holidays airing in 2020 we knew this was something that we wanted to continue and expand upon.” continued Payne. The Owensboro Symphony is working with Tanner West to produce the special which will air on KET in the near future. This concert experience will immerse attendees in a behind the scenes look at how a Hollywood production is made as cameras fly over the orchestra as well as the audience. “We want everyone to sit back and enjoy the concert as usual.” Payne says. “Just don’t be surprised if you hear something like, ‘take 2’ or ‘that’s a wrap’.” There will be multiple strategically placed cameras throughout Cannon Hall to capture the performance but not hinder the audience view.
