Owensboro, KY – For the past eight years, sounds of the season have filled the main lobby Owensboro Health Regional Hospital throughout December. Beginning Friday, December 1, visitors, patients, and staff will be greeted by holiday favorites in the hospital’s main lobby where musicians contracted by the Owensboro Symphony perform. This holiday tradition is a part of the Owensboro Symphony’s Music On Call program, a community engagement initiative made possible by the Owensboro Health Community Health Investments Grant Program.

In addition to performing at the Owensboro campus, ensembles will visit Owensboro Health’s Muhlenburgh Community Hospital in Greenville and Twin Lakes Medical Center in Leitchfield on December 8. “We are grateful for this partnership with Owensboro Health which has allowed us the opportunity to connect with and provide comfort to so many. ” said Owensboro Symphony CEO, Gwyn Payne, “Two years ago, we expanded our holiday performances to two other Owensboro Health campuses in Muhlenberg and Grayson counties and look forward to performing at those sites again this year,” continued Payne.

Music On Call was designed to enhance and transform lives and bring hope and comfort to people who are experiencing challenging circumstances. This is being accomplished by placing a musician and small ensembles in many venues throughout the community where children and adults benefit from renewal through the power of live music.

Through this community engagement program, partnerships have been established throughout the region with other community organizations, including but not limited to residential treatment facilities, retirement communities, memory care units, rehabilitation centers, hospitals, family resource centers, detention center, local businesses and corporations to provide a positive stimulus that can be achieved through the exhilaration of live music performance.

“Music On Call brings meaningful, musical experiences into the community.,” said Payne. “These programs give the Symphony an opportunity to bring joy to the community beyond the concert hall.”

Visitors are encouraged to check Owensboro Health’s current masking policy before they visit.
