After initially joining the Owensboro Symphony in January of 1974, Greg Olson has served as Principal Bassist with the Owensboro Symphony and Evansville Philharmonic Orchestras since 1981, and served in the same capacity with the Orquestra Sinfonica de Minas Gerias in Belo Horizonte, Brazil from 1978-80. Mr. Olson also currently performs with Orchestra Kentucky Bowling Green, and was recently named Principal Bassist with the Paducah Symphony Orchestra.
Originally from Los Angeles, he received his B.M. Performance in Double Bass from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where he studied with Murray Grodner, Stuart Sankey and Eugene Levinson. He also holds a M.A. in Education from Western Kentucky University.
As a teacher, Mr. Olson has been Double Bass Instructor for the Owensboro Symphony Academy since 1981, and is currently Adjunct Instructor in Double Bass at University of Evansville and Kentucky Wesleyan College. He was also Director of the Owensboro High School Orchestra and String Teacher with the Owensboro Public Schools from 1981 until his retirement at the end of 2013. He currently teaches string classes part-time in the Daviess County Public Schools. Mr. Olson also currently serves as Coordinator of Education Activities for the Owensboro Symphony.
Mr Olson is married to OS Bass Clarinetist Kathy Olson. They have one son Nate, who, along with wife Priscilla, are the parents of Grandsons Cameron and William.
