Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, cellist Matthew Fields has been a member of the Owensboro Symphony since the 2023-2024 season. In addition to performing with the Owensboro Symphony, Matthew is a section cellist with the Evansville Philharmonic and Columbus Indiana Philharmonic, as well as a substitute cellist with the Sarasota Orchestra in Sarasota, Florida.
Matthew is a recent graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he obtained a Masters of Music degree in cello performance while studying under the tutelage of Professor Peter Stumpf. During his time at IU, Matthew served as principal cellist of both IU Concert Orchestra and University Orchestra. Additionally in 2022, Matthew completed a Bachelors of Music degree in cello performance at the Schulich School of Music of McGill University in Montreal, Quebec under the guidance of Professor Matt Haimovitz where he was awarded with Outstanding Achievement in cello performance. During his time at McGill, Matthew performed Schumann’s Cello Concerto in A minor with the McGill University Beethoven Orchestra.
Matthew’s principal teachers include Peter Stumpf, Matt Haimovitz, and Martha Baldwin.
