Crystal Barrett
Principal Oboe
Dr. Crystal Barrett is currently Principal Oboe with the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra and the Lafayette Symphony Orchestra. Additionally, she has an active career as a freelance musician in the Greater Indianapolis area where she is a frequent recording studio musician and extra musician with ensembles such as the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra. She has also held the position of Second Oboe with the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra and Principal Oboe with the Long Bay Symphony and the Ohio Light Opera. Other engagements include the Kent/Blossom Music Festival, the National Orchestral Institute, Sarasota Music Festival, the Bloomington Camerata Orchestra, the South Carolina Philharmonic and the Louisiana State University Chamber Winds Camp.
Dr. Barrett maintains a large private oboe studio in Indianapolis and is an active adjudicator with the Indiana State School Music Association. She previously served on the faculty at Indiana State University and has also served as an adjudicator for the South Carolina Music Educators Association.
She is affiliated with the Delta Omicron Music Fraternity and is a lifetime member of the Pi Kappa Lambda Music Honor Society. She is a recipient of the Earnest Harrison Oboe Scholarship and has had the pleasure of studying with oboists John Mack, Nancy Ambrose King, Frank Rosenwein and Jeff Rathbun.
Dr. Barrett received her Doctorate and Performer Diploma from Indiana University under the direction of accomplished oboists Roger Roe and Linda Strommen. Additionally, she completed a Master of Music from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Arts in Music Cum Laude from the University of South Carolina Honors College.
