Amy Holmes began playing piano at a very young age. She grew up in Jackson, Missouri and began playing percussion at age 13 in 7th grade band. Amy played in band throughout high school and sang in school choirs.
Studying percussion performance, Amy graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in 2004. She married her husband David shortly after and moved to Bloomington, Indiana to begin working on her masters degree at Indiana University.
After graduating from IU in 2007, Amy began freelancing and doing some teaching. She subbed with several regional orchestras for years, and became a section member of the Owensboro Symphony in 2009. She was also principal percussionist with the Lafayette Symphony for 13 years.
After living in Indiana for 16 years, the Holmes family moved back to Cape Girardeau, Missouri to be closer to family. Amy is currently teaching k-12 music and band in Oak Ridge, Missouri.
“I love playing with the Owensboro Symphony because of the top notch musicians in the orchestra,” Amy stated. She looks forward to many more concerts with the Owensboro Symphony.
