Edwin Lacy, a native of Hopkinsville, Kentucky, received his bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Murray State University. After teaching for six years in the public schools of Indiana and Illinois, he attended Indiana University, earning a master’s degree in Bassoon Performance in 1966 and Doctor of Music in Woodwinds in 1978. He performed in the Evansville Philharmonic Orchestra from 1959 until recently, becoming the longest serving member in the history of that organization. He was principal bassoonist of the Owensboro Symphony Orchestra from 1968 until 1987. In 1967 he joined the faculty of the Music Department at the University of Evansville where he continues to teach, also becoming the longest serving faculty member in the history of UE. He has been a visiting professor at the University of Louisville, Indiana University, and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He resides in Evansville with his wife of more than 60 years, Beverly, a retired music teacher and church organist.
