Larry joined the Owensboro Symphony as Principal Trumpet in 2003. He has been a featured soloist, performed with the Owensboro Symphony Brass Quintet, served on the Player’s Committee, and presented numerous educational programs for the orchestra. Back home in Indiana he serves as Principal Trumpet with the Anderson Symphony, The Muncie Symphony, and the Marion Philharmonic.
Larry taught at the college level for fifteen years which included the University of Indianapolis, the University of Tennessee/Knoxville, and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. In 2022 he leftthe college ranks to pursue Suzuki Trumpet training where the students start trumpet as early as four years old. Larry is one of just over one hundred registered teachers worldwide for Suzuki Trumpet. Prior to his Suzuki training he earned his bachelors in music education from the University of Indianapolis, and his masters in trumpet performance from Butler University.
Larry studied with Vince DiMartino, Marvin Perry, Roger Ingram, and Bobby Shew, and has performed with artists such as Wayne Newton, Amy Grant, Ronald Romm, Rex Richardson, and has shared the stage with the one and only Doc Severinsen. In 2018 he launched his podcast studioHFL where he has interviewed nearly two hundred musicians including Doc Severinsen, Ronald Romm, Ryan Anthony, Allen Vizzutti, and Wayne Bergeron.
Larry is a Performing Artist for both the Eastman Music Company, and S.E. Shires.
