Ross Erickson, a native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is currently serving as Instructor of Percussion at the University of Evansville. Ross is an avid performer and music educator. In addition to his activities with the Owensboro Symphony, Ross also serves as Principal Percussionist with the Evansville Philharmonic and is a regular extra section member with the Louisville Orchestra. Ross completed his undergraduate and graduate studies at the Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington, where he studied percussion performance with John Tafoya, Kevin Bobo, Michael Spiro, and Steve Houghton. During his time at IU, Ross participated in all of the world percussion ensembles, gaining a strong appreciation and understanding for musical styles that aren’t often performed on the grand concert stage. Using his understanding of hand drum techniques, Ross has presented multiple clinics at the University of Evansville and IU Summer Music Clinic focused on building students’ understanding of how to approach instruments of all shapes and sizes.
